This week certainly has been a great one for learning more about greenhouse maintenance and size considerations! We’ve spoken to two growers this week from Northfield: Leif Knecht and Ben Doherty.
Ben Doherty is well-known at ARTech because he substitute teaches occasionally, not to mention because of his fantastic organic farm. Ben came into school on Tuesday to present to the high school Environmental Studies class about his growing practices, both in the field and the greenhouse. The grand majority of our group was able to attend the talk. Ben also left behind some books about greenhouse and organic growing.
Today, Danny, Arlo, Todd, Amelia, and another interested student went to visit Knecht’s Nurseries and Landscaping to see the hoophouses there. Mr. Knecht was very happy to show us two of his greenhouses: a 14′ wide house and a 20′ house. It was invaluable to be able to stand inside a greenhouse very like the one we want to install in a few months.
If you’ve visited our site before, you’ll notice a different banner at the top, and some photos on the static pages. The banner was specially made for us by Jack, a student here at ARTech who found the old stock photo rather blah. Thank you, Jack!
